What is expository Bible teaching?
Expository Bible teaching involves the exposition, or comprehensive explanation, of the Scripture; that is, expository teaching presents the meaning and intent of a biblical text, providing commentary and examples to make the passage clear and understandable. The word exposition is related to the word expose - the expository Bible teacher's goal is simply to expose the meaning of the Bible, verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book.
WHY EXPOSITORY TEACHING?
It is the method least likely to stray from Scripture
It gives confidence to the preacher and authorises the sermon
It teaches people how to read (and study) their Bibles
It meets the need for relevance without letting the clamour for relevance dictate the message.
It forces the preacher to handle the tough questions.
It allows the preacher to expound systematically the whole counsel of God
